Scarlett Johansson Furious with GPT Voice Impersonation
A new OpenAI chatbot has been launched but Hollywood actress, Scarlett Johansson, is thoroughly unhappy with the vocals, which she claims sound creepily similar to her own.
The new model, named Sky, debuted last week. However, the 39-year-old starlet’s legal team has already sent OpenAI two letters accusing the company and its founder, Sam Altman, of copying her voice without her permission.
According to Johansson, Altman initially contacted her in September last year, requesting her permission to voice the new project, which she declined. Altman allegedly approached her again, two days before the Sky chatbot was released, asking her to reconsider.
“When I heard the released demo, I was shocked, angered and in disbelief that Mr Altman would pursue a voice that sounded so eerily similar to mine,” she said in a media statement released on Monday, 20 May, before adding that even her “closest friends and news outlets could not tell the difference.”
Altman has denied allegations that the company still decided to imitate Johansson’s voice, despite her refusal to participate in the project, but the company has subsequently agreed to remove the audio.
